The connection works beside the router and disappears in the bedroom where you take calls. A mesh system could help, but replacing equipment before checking placement can turn a simple problem into an expensive one. Work out whether the weak point is coverage, the internet connection, or a particular device.

Map the problem at normal times

Try the same device near the router and in the problem room, especially during busy household hours. Compare more than one device. If everything struggles next to the router, check the broadband service and modem before blaming wireless coverage. Move the router out of a cabinet and away from large obstructions where practical.

Choose placement before node count

A mesh node needs a good connection back to the network. Putting it deep inside the dead zone can leave it repeating a weak link. Position nodes between the router and difficult rooms, following the manufacturer’s guidance. More nodes are not automatically better, particularly in a small home with many nearby wireless networks.

Think about wired backhaul

If Ethernet is available between rooms, a system supporting wired backhaul may provide a more predictable connection. Check whether the nodes include enough appropriate Ethernet ports. Faster Wi-Fi generations can offer benefits, but the client devices, building materials, and internet plan still shape the experience. Do not buy solely on a combined theoretical speed.

Check the cost after checkout

Read whether parental controls, security features, or detailed management require a subscription. Confirm update support and how guest networks work. Test calls, streaming, and roaming through the home during the return window. Keep the old network details recorded before replacing equipment so reconnecting household devices is manageable.
