A second spreadsheet window would be useful, but the desk is already doing double duty as a dressing table. Screen size is only one part of choosing a monitor for a small room. The stand’s depth, connection options, and comfortable viewing distance can matter just as much.
Measure the footprint, not just the diagonal
Tape out the stand dimensions on your desk. Leave space for the keyboard, your hands, and the laptop if it stays open. A shallow stand or compatible monitor arm may free more useful space than moving to a smaller screen. Check the desk’s thickness and strength before choosing an arm.
Match resolution to your work
Higher resolution can make text and photos look sharper, but operating-system scaling determines how much fits comfortably onscreen. For documents, prioritize readable text and a stable adjustable stand. For games, check refresh rate and the computer’s output capabilities. A high refresh specification is wasted if the cable or computer cannot deliver it.
USB-C can simplify, with conditions
A monitor with USB-C video and adequate power delivery can reduce clutter for a compatible laptop. Compare the monitor’s charging output with the laptop manufacturer’s requirements. Check whether a video-capable cable is included. Ports for a keyboard and mouse are helpful only if the monitor also provides a working upstream connection to the computer.
Test the ordinary details
Open your actual documents, adjust text size, and work for a full session during the return window. Check wake-from-sleep behavior and the brightness you use in the evening. If the screen feels too close, move it before deciding you need a different panel. Packaging is worth keeping until you know the stand and screen fit together in your room.
