A trackpad is convenient on a train, but a whole afternoon of detailed spreadsheet work can make a separate mouse appealing. Travel models look tidy in a bag; the smallest one is not necessarily the most comfortable. Think about where you will use it after you arrive.
Fit your hand and your working style
Compare length, width, and weight with a mouse you already find comfortable. A flat pocket mouse and a sculpted desk mouse ask your hand to rest differently. If you are considering a vertical design, allow time to assess it with normal tasks. No shape is a universal answer for pain or discomfort.
Pick a connection you can keep
Bluetooth avoids using a USB port, while a dedicated receiver can offer a straightforward computer connection. Check whether the receiver is included, which connector it uses, and whether it stores inside the mouse. Multi-device switching is useful if it works with your actual laptop and tablet.
Consider the surfaces on your route
A café table, hotel desk, and glass dining table can produce different tracking results. Read surface compatibility rather than assuming every sensor works everywhere. A thin mouse mat may solve the problem cheaply. Quiet switches are considerate in a shared room, but make sure the click feedback still feels clear enough for you.
Keep charging from becoming a surprise
Rechargeable mice reduce battery purchases, while replaceable-battery designs can be convenient when travelling. Check whether a rechargeable mouse can be used while connected. Test scrolling, side buttons, sleep behavior, and your everyday shortcuts before deciding it is a keeper. An accessory that needs constant software attention is a poor travel companion.
